Medication-Assisted Treatment combines prescription medications with supportive care to help individuals recover from opioid use disorder (OUD). MAT reduces withdrawal symptoms, decreases cravings, and supports lasting recovery.

Common FDA-approved medications include:

  • Buprenorphine (Suboxone®, Brixadi®)
  • Methadone (available only through licensed opioid treatment programs; not provided at Atkins Hope and Healing)
  • Naltrexone (Vivitrol® injection or oral tablets)
 

At Atkins Hope and Healing, we primarily use buprenorphine-based medications and naltrexone when appropriate.

MAT helps stabilize brain chemistry and reduces cravings, allowing patients to focus on healing, counseling, relationships, and rebuilding their lives without the constant struggle of withdrawal.

No. The duration of treatment is individualized. Some people take medication for several months; others may benefit from longer use. You and your provider will work together to determine the best plan based on your progress and recovery goals.

No. MAT uses carefully prescribed, monitored medications designed to stabilize brain function — not create a “high.” These medications allow normal daily functioning and support long-term recovery.

Adults diagnosed with opioid use disorder who are medically appropriate and motivated for recovery. Your provider will complete a private, comprehensive assessment before starting treatment.

Your first visit includes:

  • A confidential medical evaluation
  • Review of your health and substance use history
  • Discussion of medication options and goals
  • Explanation of treatment expectations and next steps
Counseling is highly recommended as part of a comprehensive recovery plan, but it is not mandatory to receive care at Atkins Hope and Healing. We can connect you with counseling, therapy, or community resources that best fit your needs and preferences.

Yes. Most patients continue normal daily activities once stabilized on medication. Your provider will discuss safety guidelines and monitor for side effects during early treatment.

Absolutely. Your privacy is protected by HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, which offer special confidentiality protections for substance use disorder treatment. Your participation in MAT will never be shared without your written consent.

Early in treatment, visits may be weekly or bi-weekly. As you stabilize, visits often become monthly or less frequent. Each treatment plan is personalized.

Relapse does not mean failure — it means additional support is needed. We’ll review your plan, adjust medication or counseling options, and help you get back on track. Our focus is healing, not judgment.
